Misuse of federal powers

The shooting of Ezequiel Hernandez Jr. by the Marines [on border
patrol near Big Bend Park] could have been avoided had there been
a strict adherence to constitutional principles. Namely, a
separation of civilian and military affairs, and keeping law
enforcement local. A local law enforcement officer held
accountable through local elections would likely know the
families living in the vicinity and their habits.

The only permanent way to prevent this from recurring is the
systematic application of strict constitutional limitations on
the use of federal power.
