Fingerprint Drugs of Abuse(TM), a rapid noninstrument assay which utilizes
urine to detect the presence of illicit drugs, generates an identifiable
fingerprint which minimizes "chain of evidence" concerns in criminal cases,
according to House.
These "identifiable" fingerprints have special significance in the law
enforcement and judicial process. This unique feature of Fingerprint Drugs
of Abuse(TM), that it retains the donor's fingerprint as an integral part of
the test, eliminates doubt in establishing chain of custody.
This product will create many positive opportunities for those in the law
enforcement community such as parole officers.
"After a series of tests on this new product, we have deemed that the
Fingerprint Drugs of Abuse(TM) does generate an identifiable fingerprint
which is imperative during drug screening especially involving chain of
custody procedures," stated House.
For over 40 years, House has had extensive experience in law enforcement,
twice recognized by Who's Who in American Law Enforcement. Most recently,
he was the chief of the Brookside Police Department in Texas where he relied
on his impressive background in alcohol and drug enforcement.
House is licensed in all areas of law enforcement and photography and spent
10 years working as a Police Academy Instructor. His background and
experience has proved invaluable to the validation and promotion of the
fingerprint technology used by Point of Care.
The Fingerprint Drugs of Abuse(TM) tests for amphetamines, cocaine, opiates,
PCP and THC (marijuana) in minutes, meets all NIDA (National Institute on
Drug Abuse) cutoff standards and can easily be administered. This product
has also received FDA 510(k) clearance.
In response to rising health care costs and the growing concern over
increasing use of illicit drugs, Point of Care developed Fingerprint Drugs
of Abuse(TM). Testing for drug abuse is now being called for in more and
more environments. For example, correction and parole officers lack a
convenient way to perform immediate field checks for drug use that still
protect the "chain of evidence."
Also human resource professionals are often searching for inexpensive,
accurate and convenient ways to test employees for drug use.
"Point of Care" is dedicated to bringing new approaches to personal health
care to market," stated Michael Pratt, Point of Care chairman, CEO &
president. "After much research, we designed this unique approach to drug
testing with the Fingerprint Drugs of Abuse(TM), an easy and cost effective
method for anyone from parole officers to parents."
Testing is simple to administer. The product comes in an individually
sealed, tamperproof package. Each test screens for five drugs from a
single sample. Five drops of urine sample are combined with reagents and
transferred to the test area.
A coloring solution is applied to the test area using the subject's thumb or
forefingers, which gives a visual result and records the fingerprint. It
delivers 99% agreement with fullblown laboratory tests, but it is simple
enough for use by nonmedically trained individuals.
Point of Care, based in Herndon, is a pioneer in the use of safe and
effective medical devices. The development of their "enabling platform
technologies," based on eight years of research, has made them a worldwide
innovator in health care technology used in home and point of care
environment.
