Rock promises to extend feds' AIDS strategy
HULL, Que. (CP) A new National AIDS strategy is expected to be
revamped and signed by World AIDS Day on Dec. 1.
Health Minister Allan Rock told AIDS activists yesterday that a new
deal with $40 million a year for research and care will go ahead as
promised in the spring election campaign.
Funding for the current strategy is set to expire at the end of March,
but the Liberals promised to provide the same amount of money each
year until 2003.
Rock said the strategy has to be altered to reflect the changing face
of AIDS. A federal review of how the money should be spent will begin
next week, he said.
