The suspension affects El Paso and Hudspeth counties in Texas and New
Mexico's entire border with Mexico, the Border Patrol said Friday.

Previously, military patrols were stopped along 420 miles of the Texas
Mexico border shortly after Esequiel Hernandez Jr., 18 was shot by a Marine
on antidrug duty in Redford, 180 miles southwest of El Paso.

The Marines said Herandez fired his rifle twice and was about to fire
again when Cpl.Clemente Banuelos opened fire. Herandez's family said he
carried the rifle to protect his goats and sometimes shot at targets.

The shooting raised questions about the wisdom of sending military
personal to monitor the 2,000mile Mexican border.
