A hitandrun driver who was traced through a piece of
a broken light from his RollsRoyce pleaded guilty to man
slaughter in Phoenix on Friday in the death of an 11year
old boy and was given five years' probation.
Edward Palenkas, a 70yearold retired industrialist,
could have gotten 15 years in prison.
Judge Christopher Skelly also ordered him to perform 20
hours of community service a week, some of it with organza
tions that fight drunken driving, and donate $20,000 to anti
drunken driving groups.
Christopher "Kipp" Turner was walking home from a video
store in Scottsdale in 1994 when he was hit by Palenkas' Rolls
Royce Silver Cloud. Palenkas was leaving a restaurant where he
had dinner and mixed drinks.
