LANDOVER, Md. (AP) Georgetown point guard Ed Sheffey was arrested on
several misdemeanor charges after police said his car was clocked at more
than 90 miles an hour.

Sheffey was charged with possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, fleeing
and eluding a police officer, driving without a license, reckless and
negligent driving and speeding. All are misdemeanors.

Prince Georges County police said the 19yearold sophomore passed a police
radar in Landover early Wednesday morning. They said a brief police chase
ensued until Sheffey stopped at a dead end.

The police report says Sheffey got out of the car and dropped a cigarette,
which later was found to contain 2.4 grams of marijuana. Sheffey was said to
have resisted and struggled with an officer who ordered him to the ground.

He was later released on his own recognizance.

A Georgetown team spokesman said coach John Thompson was not available to
comment on the matter.

Sheffey averaged 27 minutes and 8.8 points per game as the starting point
guard for the Hoyas last season. He led the team in assists with 99.
