Active chemicals found in marijuana could serve as an effective remedy for
sufferers of serious pain without the unwanted sideeffects of traditional
morphinelike drugs, university researchers reported. A group of chemicals
known as cannabinoids relieve kinds of pain, including inflammation
associated with arthritis and more severe forms of chronic pain, the
researchers said.

The findings came from new animal studies by groups of researchers at the
University of California, San Francisco, the University of Michigan and
Brown University.
