Even after twice reading "House sets tough anti-drug goals" (Main
news, Oct. 22), I still couldn't believe my eyes.

For the House to give even more power to Barry McCaffrey and his
drug warriors to attain such impossible goals as cutting overall
durg use by 50 percent in four years is pure folly. The drug war
has been raging for more than 30 years, and the drug problem is
worse than ever.

The Office of National Drug Control Policy has more than proved
that its approach to drugs causes much more harm than good, so
why does the House insist on supporting this failed office and
its failed policies?
