7 convicted of illegal alcohol selling at frat
Seven former and current university students in Cumberland, Md., were found
guilty Friday of running an illegal fraternity party where a freshman drank
himself to death.
The seven, who pleaded not guilty to selling alcohol without a license,
were found guilty by Judge J. Frederick Sharer. Prosecutors dropped
charges of manslaughter and reckless endangerment stemming from the death
of John Stinner.
Sharer gave each of the defendants 90day suspended jail sentences and
placed them on five years of probation. They were also fined $1,000 and
ordered to perform 250 hours of community service.
The 20yearold Stinner, of Glassport, Pa., was found dead in his dormitory
room at Frostburg State University on Nov. 9. He had a bloodalcohol level
more than threetimes the legal limit.
