Your article,"Murphy Brown's pot use draws DEA fire" [Capital Briefly,
Nov. 6], quoted a statement issued by DEA administrator Thomas Constantine
regarding the episode in which Murphy smokes medical marijuana to relieve
nausea caused by chemotherapy.
He said CBS and the show's creators were "doing a great disservice" by
"trivializing drug abuse" and "pandering" to the libertarian supporters
of an open society. Hmmmm, "open society" or "closed society?" Hmmmm,
"freedom" or "police state." Freedom works well.
