PLANET HEMP is imprisoned for supporting the use of drugs.

The members of the band from Rio de Janiero Planet Hemp were imprisoned
early yesterday morning by the Civil Police of the Federal District after
they played for 7000 people.

They were imprisoned on flagrant accusations of supporting the use of
maconha( pronounced maconha) marijuana. According to Eric Castro from the
Office of Toxicants and Narcotics, the Civil Police have been studying the
lyrics of the group's music for one year.

Also according to Castro, the police came to conclusion that the musicians
were promoting the use of drugs and were in violation of Narcotics Law
(6.368), for supporting (article 12), and people associating with the use
of drugs (article 18)

He claimed that the musicians were not arrested sooner but the police did
not know the complete names nor the addresses of the band members.

"We knew about the show here in Brasilia so we got authorization from a
judge to record the show.

As suspected, the played music that supported the use of maconha," says
Castro. He also says that if convicted they could serve sentences from
three to fifteen years.

The law in which the are in violation does not allow bail so the accused
will remain in jail until the trial.

Police found a roach in the hotel where they were staying.

They were given drug tests at the Legal Medical Institute. The results will
be available in eight days. Lists names of band members.

They are to be transferred to Nucleo de Custodia de Brasilia. Castro says
they could be transferred as early as tonight but that depends on available
space.

The musicians of Planet Hemp are currently being detained at the police
headquarters.

The newspaper Folha spoke to Sony Music, who records their music, has hired
council to represent the group.

In addition to the musicians, the police arrested three minors between the
ages of 14 and 15 who were smoking maconha after the show.

The previous day in Belo Horizonte, the band was held for questioning by
local police for five hours.
