11 ARRESTED AFTER DRUGS OPERATION

ELEVEN people are under arrest after a fivenation operation to thwart the
smuggling of hashish with a street value of £15 million into Britain.

Four men were held in Bradford, west Yorks, when armed police and Customs
officers raided a yard where a container, which had been driven from Spain,
was being unloaded. Seven other people were later detained in raids in the
Liverpool area.

The international operation began when Spanish and British police opened
the container which had been shipped to Barcelona from Lagos, Nigeria.

After hashish had been removed the container was repacked with another
substance and resealed. It was kept under surveillance as it was driven
through France, Luxembourg and Belgium where it left Zeebrugge for Dover
and finally Bradford.
