Title:US CA: Follow up: The Peter McWilliams ad in DAILY Variety
Published On:1997-12-20
Source:DAILY Variety
Fetched On:2008-09-07 18:17:18
Editors note: Our newshawk writes: "The ad was published December 1st,
1997, pages 28 and 29 in the DAILY Variety. The headline over the text
read; 'Would you fight a Hollywood blacklist if there were one today? (Be
careful. This is a trick question.)' The pictures were great. A PDF file of
the ad in it's entirety can be found at http://www.marijuanamagazine.com "

Thank you todd. I should have been checking the URL above as well as
tracking down the contact information when I posted the ad. If any of our
readers have not checked out the actual ad, photos, and the other
information about the DEA raid it can all be found at the website above.

On a personal note, as a sometimes editor/publisher (I published a monthly
newspaper called 'Grass Roots Gazette' the Voice of the California
Marijuana Initiative back in '72'73 and a couple of "underground"
newspapers before that) I can not help but consider the DEA raid anything
but an unconstitutional attack on the free press at least until and
unless unpublished work and research materials of author Peter McWilliams
are returned. Will the DEA be at the doors of newspapers that publish
editorials they do not like next?
