HOLIDAYS PROPOSED FOR DRUGS BARONS
JAILED drug kingpins in Columbia and the corrupt politicians who took their
money would be eligible for up to 60 holidays a year and weekend release
under legislation approved by the Senate.
To obtain those benefits, the convicts must complete 80% of their
sentences, observe good conduct and work or study. The bill, approved on
Tuesday and aimed at easing prison overcrowding, must now be reconciled
with a measure passed by the House of Representatives on December 2 that
would have granted early release to prisoners with good behaviour.
