DEMOCRATIC PROCESS IS BEING THWARTED

To the editor:

Several insults were hurled at the six million people who voted for
Proposition 215, (Marijuana initiative's true intentions disputed, Donald
Hirt, TelegramTribune, Nov. 21)

Sorry Mr. Hirt, we were not a "gullible electorate," nor were we "duped,"
as you so rudely accused. We knew exactly what we were voting for. It
appears that the spirit of the democratic process has eluded you.

The electorate decided to open the door a bit on marijuana to observe the
results. If they prove negative, then the door will be opened no further,
or reclosed.

If the results are positive, the door can be opened further, perhaps all
the way, to full legalization, but only after being subjected to the full
scrutiny of the democratic process.

This democratic process, however, is currently being thwarted by the
refusal of our law enforcement officials to enforce the law as it is
written in Proposition 215.
