RANDOM DRUG TESTS FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS PITCHED BY DAVIS
Describing drug use as the scourge of California's schools,Lt.Gray Davis
unveiled a proposal Tuesday for the random drug testing of California high
school students.
In a speech to Sacramento's business-oriented Comstock Club, Davis - a
candidate for governor - said strong actions are needed to make schools
safe.
But the drug-testing proposal he announced would initially be only a $1
million pilot program in five schools and would be conducted only with the
approval of parents and school officials. He said test results would be
released only to parents.
