PITTSBURG MAN ARRESTED IN COCAINE INVESTIGATION
Concord -- Authorities have arrested a Pittsburg man suspected of
participating in a major cocaine smuggling ring in the Bay Area, the FBI
said yesterday.
Federal agents arrested 29- year-old Edgardo Alfonso Monterrosa at his job
at a construction company in Concord on Tuesday. Monterrosa allegedly
worked for an East Bay drug ring responsible for smuggling hundreds of
kilograms of cocaine during a three- month period last year.
The FBI has already arrested 11 other people allegedly connected to the
conspiracy.
Monterrosa is charged with conspiracy to possess a controlled substance
with the intent to distribute. The crime carries a maximum 20-year prison
term and a $4 million fine.
