NEWSOM ON TEEN'S DRUGS

I applaud Supervisor Gavin Newsom for his interest and concern for the
juvenile drug problem in San Francisco. But having all these town hall
meetings doesn't really get down to the nitty-gritty of the problem
("Newsom vows to step up fight against drugs," Metro section, Jan. 25).

Let's be realistic. Let's get down to the core of this very tragic problem.

Where are the parents of all these juveniles who are getting involved in
drugs? Probably most of these parents can't even conduct their own lives
responsibly, much less have children.

Why didn't Newsom bring this up? I guess in this day and age that would
have been considered politically incorrect.
