THREE STRIKES LAW IS A WAY TO KEEP THE PUBLIC SAFE

In the Orange Grove ["What price will we pay for more prisons?",Jan.29],
Doug Kieso suggest that the Three Strikes law has been accepted by the
public more from emotion than logic and that it requires funding that could
be better used in disease detection,as an example.

If Kieso would look at the statistics on home burglar alarms and vehicle
theft prevention devices installed every day he would know that personal
security may be an emotional matter but that it is approached logically by
many.

With respect to alternative uses of funds, there is very little purpose in
government if personal security is not a primary function. In addition,
the first-and second-time offenders tend to be more amenable to education
away from crime. The Three Strikes law reflects the recidivism.
