OHIO POLICE RECRUIT HELD ON DRUG CHARGES
Police wondered why a new recruit failed to show up for his first day at
the Dayton Police Academy in Ohio. Now they know why: He was awaiting
prosecution on federal drug charges in Baltimore.
George Hawkins, 30, who was working as a guard at the Baltimore City
Detention Center, was one of 11 people arrested and charged in connection
with a jailhouse drug ring, John Sapliway, an FBI agent in Baltimore, said
Friday.
