TOWN CRIME DOWN, DRUG CHARGES UP 26%
Crime was down 10.5 per cent in Whitchurch-Stouffville from 2004 to
2005, council heard Tuesday night.
The information was part of a presentation by York Region Police Chief
Armand La Barge and Insp. Wayne Kalinski.
Drug arrests, however, kept the police busy as 26 per cent more people
were arrested compared to the previous year. Although crimes against
people were up by 5.2 per cent during that same time, there were about
14 per cent fewer crimes against property.
Police have increased traffic enforcement and patrols on Stouffville's
streets and added youth and seniors' programs, Insp. Kalinski said.
