NY MAN CHARGED IN HUGE COCAINE SEIZURE

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A New York man has been charged with drug trafficking
after more than $50 million of cocaine was seized from his vehicle, the
second-largest cocaine confiscation in state history, the Oklahoma Highway
Patrol said Wednesday.

Javier Moscoso, of Inwood, N.Y., is being held in the Beckham County Jail
in Sayre with bond set at $100,000.

Moscoso was arrested Saturday after he was stopped on Interstate 40 in
western Oklahoma by a trooper for improper registration, Lt. Stewart Meyer
said. A woman and two children also were in the vehicle, but Meyer said
he's unsure where they were Wednesday.

"Something developed during the conversation that made the trooper suspect
that something else was going on," Meyer said without elaborating.

After Moscoso consented to the search, more than 300 pounds of cocaine was
found hidden in the floor of the van.

The largest cocaine seizure in Oklahoma occurred in October 1996, when 500
pounds was confiscated in Oklahoma City, Meyer said.
