JUSTICE IS BLINDFOLDED
Not justice! According to the story, "Socialite gets 10-month term" [Metro,
April 22], Tina Schafnitz's defence attorney, Robert Newman, said he did
not believe she received preferential treatment, although her extensive
charity work was a factor in her favor. Think about it: This woman was
privileged; she had both the wealth and leisure to engage in charity work.
"Work" for which she had to get all dressed up and go to parties and
expensive lunches and dinners. What did she do with all her privileges? She
used them to break the law.
Now think about Mrs. Joe Gottawork of Santa Ana: She needs her job, has a
rotten boss (maybe she cleans house for Tina), an awful schedule (she also
keeps house for Jose and kids). She has no choice, money or time for
"charity work," but if she gets busted for the same stupid thing as
Schafnitz she gets no credit and does the 11 years.
