SMOKERS
The new U.S. practice of asking Canadians at customs if they've ever smoked
marijuana is poorly thought out. For one thing, as John Stuart Mill pointed
out over a century ago about religious oaths, it only catches the honest
pot smokers, current or former. For another, if it were rigorously
enforced, our consul in L.A., one Kim Campbell, would have been unable to
enter the U.S. because she admits she has smoked it, and inhaled (but
didn't like it). Speaking of inhale to the chief, President Bill Clinton,
should he go abroad, would also be refused reentry under this policy.
On second thought, maybe they have thought it through.
