DRUG CONNECTION

GLENCOE - Regarding "Violent crime takes a tumble, though reasons are murky"
(Page 1, April 21):

Perhaps the reason for less violent crime can be contributed (sic) to the
positive changes in the prison system, with more money allocated to
combating drugs within the system. This is taking the form of more
drug-treatment programs and more stringent methods of keeping drugs out of
the system. As prisoners return to society having been drug-free for at
least six months, the chances of returning to crime are lessened. One hopes
that more funds will be legislated toward the expansion of these methods in
all Illinois prisons.
