DRUG RINGLEADER GIVEN 35 YEARS

MUSKOGEE (AP) -- A man who led a drug operation run by a southeastern
Oklahoma crime group known as "Live for the Family" was sentenced Tuesday to
35 years in prison without parole.

Carl Eugene Hines was sentenced in federal court along with four others who
were involved in the methamphetamine ring.

A federal jury convicted Hines on multiple counts in February. Prosecutors
had alleged that his group had made and sold illegal drugs since November
1995 in at least seven southern Oklahoma counties.

In December, former Marshall County Sheriff Decco Dewayne Baxter admitted
his role in the operation, pleading guilty to charges that included
conspiracy, aiding and abetting a felon, and drug possession. Baxter was
sentenced to 8 1/2 years.

Daniel Robert Martin, 39, of Mill Creek was sentenced to 20 years without
parole. He had been found guilty on several charges, including conspiracy
and illegally storing hazardous waste without a permit.

Jack Nance Hensley, 36, of Ardmore was sentenced to six years, three months
in prison for conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine.

Billy Jack Orange, 36, of Madill was given 27 months for conspiracy to
illegally transport and store hazardous wastes.
