MEXICO'S FOREIGN MINISTER SOFTENS RECENT STATEMENTS
Foreign Secretary Rosario Green adopted a more conciliatory tone Thursday in
the dispute over a U.S. money-laundering sting that she says violated
Mexico's sovereignty. She said that Mexico's pledge to ask for the
extradition of U.S. agents involved in the sting remains hypothetical until
prosecutors find evidence of wrongdoing.
But her department also said it had formally protested a U.S. decision not
to prosecute Riverside County sheriff's deputies accused in the videotape
clubbing of two Mexicans in 1996.
