CELEBRATE RECREATIONAL CANNABIS
WHILE I thank you for your compassion in supporting medical use of cannabis,
I cannot agree with your statement on the need to retain prohibition of
recreational cannabis use or your argument "there are valid reasons why
marijuana remains illegal." ("Reefer sadness," June 17) The lies told about
cannabis for decades have reinforced unjust claims about its effect or
potential harm, from ridiculous claims of sex fiendishness to your banal
claim of "impairment similar to alcohol."
Studies over the years and recent research simply do not bear out the notion
there is anything unhealthy about cannabis.
The statistics don't show any mortality resulting from immediate or
long-term use. As for lethargy and lack of motivation, poppycock!
I use cannabis to prevent seizures. It is apparently 100% effective for me.
Not so effective, but vastly more toxic and addictive (not to mention
lethargy-inducing) is the Phenobarbital my father has been prescribed for
the same condition. I say:"No thanks" to government sanctioned narcotics
addiction. Recreational cannabis should be legalized and celebrated.
