INJECTION SITES WILL JUST ATTRACT ADDICTS

The logic behind Victoria Mayor Alan Lowe's campaign to provide a
place for addicts to conduct an illegal activity escapes me.

The Vancouver experience does not appear to be a template for
success. I wonder how many people they have "cured" as opposed to how
many people have moved to Vancouver so that can use this facility,
thereby increasing the number of addicts in the city.

Lowe's logic is the same as opening a bar and giving free liquor to
alcoholics. These addicts need to be given two choices: Jail or
rehab. The government needs to provide sufficient beds for rehab and
the time to get them off the drugs and off the street. This would
reduce the population of addicts, reduce addict related crime and
score a hit against the dealers. Our city would be a better place!

What is ironic about this whole situation is that we have veterans
who served their country during the war, residing in homes like Oak
Bay Lodge, who have to go outside to have a legal cigarette.

If we are so adamant about providing a facility to conduct illegal
activity for addicts, why don't we provide a place for these heroes
to have a legal smoke in their own home?

Dave Collinson,

Victoria.
