A WASTED RESOURCE
I READ your recent parenthetical remarks, "Studies prove that marijuana use
leads to other narcotics." I then thought over all the other unbelievable
remarks I have read which you never fail to add at the end of letters to the
editor. I find it impossible to believe the editors at the Sun are really as
stupid as your comments suggest. I prefer to think you are simply using
these remarks as a hook to provoke readers to respond and continue reading
the paper. Unfortunately, either way, the end result is a potentially
valuable community re-source is being wasted.
John Goepner
(Duh, what do ya mean by that?)
MY GOD! What planet have you been living on? Letters, June 21) All studies
attempting to link marijuana use with the use of other narcotics have
failed. Studies have not shown marijuana to lead to other narcotics.
Greg Handevidt
(You sound smokin' mad, Greg.)
YOUR IDEA of "sympathizing" with the plight of MS sufferer Grant Krieger is
to launch into a childish tirade against the people who wish to change the
current law, and to cheerlead on behalf of a government obviously engaged in
stalling the inevitable. ("Reefer sadness," June 17). By the way, has it
ever occurred to you that malicious prosecutions of this sort only serve to
swell the ranks of the drug legalization movement? Gee, I guess marijuana
really isn't "virtually" decriminalized after all, but I'm sure Krieger will
appreciate your "sympathy" from the comforts of his jail cell.
Kelly T. Conlon
(The government should consider allowing use of marijuana as a prescription
painkiller.)
