AIDS Specialist Discusses Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol (MARINOL)(R) Option

WHAT: A national medical expert on medicinal marijuana is available to
comment on the availability and administration of MARINOL, the medical
alternative to medicinal marijuana. MARINOL is a synthetic form of THC, an
active ingredient in marijuana. It was first approved by the Food and Drug
Administration in 1985 to treat nausea and vomiting associated with cancer
chemotherapy. In 1992 it was approved by the FDA to treat appetite loss or
anorexia associated with weight loss in patients with AIDS, and is

the laboratory. To enable precise control of dosage and strength, MARINOL
is available in three strengths, 2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg capsules. MARINOL
does not include the other over 400 substances found in marijuana.

- -- Scientifically proven safe and effective in controlled trials for
approved uses in cancer and AIDS, MARINOL has and continues to undergo
stringent clinical studies. Since 1976, there have been more than 25 human
clinical trials conducted by leading scientists in government, academia and
clinical practice.
