TASK FORCE TO PROBE DRUG GANGS
(RICHMOND) -- The Virginia Crime Commission has set-up a federal and state
task force to look into the possible link between drug trafficking and
organized crime. State Police Chief Wayne Huggins told the commission that
recent trends show greater use of heroin and crack cocaine... and there's
been an increase in seizures of methamphetamine. The task force also will
look at the continued cultivation of marijuana plants in rural Virginia.
Authorities acknowledge the risk of capture is low and detection of the
illegal pot crop is sometimes difficult in isolated, rural areas.
