PEOPLE IN THE MEDIA
In a letter to the editor of the Wall Street Journal June 24, MILTON
FRIEDMAN, senior research fellow at the Hoover Institution, responded to
the newspaper's suggestion that he and other so-called "libertarian
economists" state publicly whether they had used drugs recreationally: "I
have not done so during the past 85-plus years. But I make no guarantees
for the future." On a more serious note, Friedman said he opposed the U.S.
government war on drugs because he had "long believed that prohibition,
whether of liquor, cigarettes or drugs, is an immoral policy."
