TRASH CAN HOLDS TIP-OFF IN DRUG BUST
In Chicago, there are a few standard rules that every city dweller knows.
Never park your car in a curbside spot shoveled out by your neighbor in the
winter, for example. And never, ever put your trash in someone else's
garbage can.
Five residents of the Brighton Park neighborhood now face felony drug
charges of possession with intent to deliver after their arrest in a case
that began when a resident flagged down police and complained about someone
putting garbage in his cans.
A Chicago police spokesman said two Deering District officers on patrol
were flagged down about 9 p.m. Thursday by an irate resident who discovered
several large, black plastic bags had been placed in his trash receptacle.
The officers found residue of marijuana in the bags, and other evidence led
them to a home at 2419 W. 45th Place.
The officers went to the home and were questioning a person who answered
the door when they smelled a strong oder of marijuana, police said.
Residents of the home allowed police to enter and the officers found 184
bricks of marijuana, police said.
The marijuana, which police said totaled about 550 pounds, is valued at
$1.8 million.
All of those charged in the incident reside at the home, police said. They
are Emisael Favela, 21, Indalin Favela, 20, Andenkia Herrera, 40, Guermo
Herrera, 25 and Amaded Herrera, 29.
