BELOIT POLICE MAKE BIG HEROIN BUST

Beloit -- A Beloit couple was charged with drug trafficking Thursday
after a search at an east side home turned up what police called one
of the largest seizures of heroin in the city's history.

Calvin Gregory, 46, was charged in Rock County Circuit Court with
possession of heroin with intent to deliver, running a drug house,
possession of cocaine and bail-jumping.

According to the criminal complaint:

Gregory was arrested Wednesday night after police came to his house
with a search warrant looking for drugs and found him in the driveway.

During the arrest, two packages that contained smaller packets of
heroin fell on the ground, and a third package was found in Gregory's
pocket. The three packages contained a total of 154 small packets of
heroin with a street value of $8,620.

Police entered the home and found Ella Cartwright, 52, with some crack
cocaine. She was charged with running a drug house and possession of
cocaine.

Acting Police Chief Richard Thomas said the drug seizure was
significant because of its size and because it seems to show that
heroin -- a popular drug in the 1960s and 1970s -- is making a comeback
