BAYLOR RB FORD UNDER THE GUN AGAIN

Suspended Baylor University tailback Dexter Ford was free on bond
Thursday after being charged with running from Waco police.

Ford, 21, was released from the McLennan County Jail after posting
$1,000 bond on a charge of evading arrest, a jail spokeswoman said.

Waco police arrested Ford, who was charged in April on federal
misdemeanor marijuana possession, about 2 a.m. Wednesday at a
residence in the 500 block of North 11th Street after officers with a
police dog attempted to serve a warrant, said Sgt. Dennis Kidwell, a
Waco Police Department spokesman.

"There were some people on a porch and the officers noticed a strong
smell of marijuana, then told everyone to stay where they were,"
Kidwell said. "Dexter ran to the rear of the home."

Officials said Ford, who the Baylor University football media guide
said has a 35-inch vertical leap and 4.4 speed, then began jumping
over several fences before being apprehended.

"He finally came back into an alley and was told to stop or the
officer would turn the dog loose," Kidwell said. "So, he stopped."

Ford was arrested in April along with former Baylor football player
Greg Steele; Loomus Carlyle Lockett; and Antarius Tamkaun Aldridge as
part of an ongoing drug investigation after federal agents walked by
Lockett's apartment at the Cobblestone Apartments, 1321 S. 11th St.,
and found a small amount of marijuana after asking to search the apartment.

Lockett was given two years' probation in June in federal court. The
misdemeanor drug charges are still pending against the others arrested.

Ford, who has been working out with the team this summer after being
suspended in April, was given guidelines to follow in order to be
reinstated, Baylor head coach Dave Roberts has said.

Roberts was expected to make a decision on Ford's status sometime next
month. The coach declined comment Thursday on how the latest
allegations against the tailback would affect his future at Baylor.

"Until I get more information on that, I would rather not say
anything," Roberts said.
