MARIJUANA GROWERS ADAPT

Marijuana growers in rural Virginia are trying to stay one step ahead of
the latest high-tech surveillance equipment used by State Police.
Lieutenant H-C Davis says his officers now use heat-imaging equipment from
helicopters to spot people and vehicles near illegal pot crops after dark.
Davis says the growers have responded by planting smaller, more scattered
plots... so they spend less time in each spot. So far this year,
authorities have arrested 80 suspects in three-dozen mostly rural
counties... and nearly ten-thousand pot plants have been destroyed.
