STATE AGENCY SPRAYING TO KILL MARIJUANA CROPS

The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs has launched
"Operation Red Rain," a new herbicide-spraying program to eradicate wild
and cultivated marijuana, according to agency spokesman Mark Woodward.

The herbicide is Round-Up weed killer, colored with red dye, he said.

The dye was added to the spray to let the public know the plant has been
sprayed, he said.

The agency's hope is that the dye will deter anyone from cultivating,
selling and/or smoking the plants, Woodward said.

So far the spraying program, which is dispensed by an aerial spray rig on a
helicopter, has been used in Creek, Comanche, Logan, Caddo, Canadian and
Blaine counties, he said.
