MARIJUANA SEIZED IN TOLEDO HINTERLAND

IN LESS than a week, police uprooted 8,600 marijuana plants in the
province. Last Aug. 5, the joint forces of the Provincial mobile force and
the Toledo police uprooted 7,000 marijuana plants in Toledo city, although
no suspects were arrested.

Cebu provincial police office (CPPO) director Mario Potot said the joint
forces uprooted 3,000 seedlings and 4,000 fully-grown plants in the
hinterland part of Barangay Capitan Claudio. He said police, with ba-rangay
officials and public school teachers in the area, burned 6,000 plants on
site. The remaining 1,000 were delivered to CPPO yesterday to be burned on
the occasion of the PNP Recognition Day on Monday at Camp Sergio Osmea.

Last July 31, Balamban police chief Sr. Insp. Edgar Aldemita raided a
secluded area in sitios Tabiogon and Tac-an in Barangay Duangan. They
uprooted 1,600 fully-grown marijuana plants. The police also searched a hut
near the plantation, reportedly owned by Enorio Cabigas, and recovered two
paltik revolvers.

Cabigas, however, was not around. The plants and the revolvers are with the
CPPO while police are preparing the charges.
