POT LAWS ARE JUST FINE

Re: Up in Smoke, Philip Slayton, July 27.

As an enthusiastic supporter of marijuana rights, I would prefer the
current laws remain unchanged rather than see them be modified in any
way.

As it stands now, simple possession laws are very rarely (if ever)
enforced by the police, simply because pushing such minor infractions
through the court system has been unspokenly agreed upon to be a
wasteful and meaningless endeavour for the halls of justice.

In general, marijuana smokers are free to puff away, should the time
and place be appropriate. As such, the law only needs to be enforced
in situations where the smoking of grass would be offensive to a
majority of other parties present at that time, or simply
inappropriate. Why not allow discretionary freedom so long as common
sense prevails?
