HILL CIVILIANS NOW WILL FACE METH TESTS

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Methamphetamine drugs have been added to the
list of substances that will be screened by random drug tests conducted on
civilian employees.

About 1,100 of the base's approximately 10,000 civilian employees are
subject to random drug tests for cocaine and marijuana, said Doug Lemon,
head of the base's civilian drug testing program.

After Aug. 28, the tests will include amphetamines, a class that includes
methamphetamines. The directive to add the substance to the list came from
the Office of Special Investigations on base, Lemon said. "It's not
anything that's Air Force-wide -- it's something local," he said.

Ogden police Sgt. Tony Huemiller, a member of the Weber-Morgan narcotics
task force, said the prevalence of the drug is what makes it dangerous.
"Meth is easily the worst drug we've ever seen," he said. "It spins you
into a hole that most people who use it can't get out of . . . It's very
easy to get in Ogden. Our undercover officers go buy it any time night and
day, any day."
