I HOPE COMMON SENSE PREVAILS
I DISAGREE with C. Langford (Letters, 6/8) about supplying heroin to
registered drug addicts.
C. Langford makes the comparison with cigarettes and joyriders, but such
comparisons are spurious. Cigarettes are legal and relatively affordable
and I have never heard of anyone being assaulted so the "addict" can buy
cigarettes.
I dislike the term joyrider because it makes light of serious crime and of
course, there is no chemical addiction to stealing cars and the
perpetrators are not committing a crime to finance their addiction.
I hope common sense prevails because this scheme could cause a drastic
reduction in our crime rate and in organised crime.
