SPECIALIST WARNS OF WEEKEND 'E FEVER'

A leading casualty consultant warned of the dangers of ecstasy yesterday as
it was revealed that 23 people have died from the drug in Ireland.

Robert McQuillan, accident and emergency consultant at St Vincent's
Hospital, said casualty departments have been warned to watch out for
"Saturday Night Fever".

"Nowadays anyone coming in Saturday night or Sunday morning, we must suspect
ecstasy.

"Since ecstasy causes fever, anyone with a temperature, and convulsions,
ecstasy must be top of the list.

"Dr Hugh Williams in London did a study on the dance scene and defined this
pattern. He named it Saturday night fever," explained Mr McQuillan.
