DRUG COURT TO SAVE TAXPAYERS $60M
THE NSW drug court that would allow drug addicts to choose rehabilitation
rather than jail could save NSW taxpayers between $55 and $60 million.
An Institute of Criminology study of US drug courts has found that for every
dollar spent between $7 and $12.50 is saved elsewhere.
AIC director Dr Adam Graycar said yesterday although drug courts were more
expensive, because of the rehabilitation costs, they cost the community less
in the long run.
