POLL: 4 IN 5 FAVOR TAX TO FIGHT TEEN DRINKING
Four of five Americans say they'd support higher taxes on alcohol
equal to 5 cents a drink to help curb teen drinking, according to a
survey released Monday.
And a similar majority believe controls on underage drinking are too
lax, with 82 percent saying they believe stores and bars don't do
enough to prevent teen-agers from buying alcohol.
Eighty-two percent of respondents said they'd be willing to raise
alcohol taxes by 5 cents a drink if the money is dedicated to programs
to prevent minors from drinking or for alcohol treatment programs.
