THE MINOR PARTIES IN CA GUBERNATORIAL RACE
NATURAL LAW PARTY Harold H. Bloomfield The party was founded in April
1992 by followers of the transcendental meditation movement to promote
a ``prevention-oriented'' approach to public policy, particularly in
health care, crime and education.
PEACE AND FREEDOM PARTY Gloria La Riva In its platform, the party,
founded in 1967, says it is committed to socialism, democracy,
ecology, feminism and racial equality. Workers' rights make up a large
part of its agenda.
AMERICAN INDEPENDENT PARTY Nathan Johnson This is the California arm
of the ultra-conservative U.S. Taxpayers Party, which is anti-abortion
and declares that the U.S. Constitution established a republic under
God rather than a democracy.
GREEN PARTY Dan Hamburg An off-shoot of the European Green Party, the
California party espouses social justice causes, including
reproductive choice, universal health care, affirmative action and
more rigorous attention to the environment.
LIBERTARIAN PARTY Steve Kubby This party stresses individual liberties
and sharp reduction of government, including eliminating the INS and
IRS and privatizing education. It opposes laws that restrict choice.
