OFF THE CAMPUS
The trustees of the Grapevine- Colleyville school district should be
applauded for their diligence against student drug use, but they must
be warned that their requirement that all students participating in
extracurricular activities sign a pledge not to associate with drugs
is the wrong way to go.
The pledge requires that these students promise not to use drugs or
attend parties where drugs or alcohol are being used illegally. This
is a clear example of school administrators involving themselves far
beyond the confines of the schoolhouse gate. It is the responsibility
of parents to ensure that their children behave in a healthy manner
when they are in their parents' care.
