A SCARY THOUGHT

DAN Lungren presents a frightening potential if elected governor.

As attorney general, he has repeatedly chosen to enforce only those laws he
likes. I note especially the marijuana initiative, passed by voters to ease
terminally ill patients' pain in their final days. Lungren apparently
decided he didn't agree with the voters and set out to close down any and
all access to marijuana for the sick. I suppose that's voter nullification.

Fast forward to a possible action by ``Governor Lungren.'' What if the
Legislature passes laws over his veto? Will he simply direct those under
his control to ignore them? Current experience would say yes. In a land of
laws not people, that's scary.

I don't much care for Gray Davis, but my vote has to go to a reasonable
man, not one who decides the law on his own. Someone should tell Lungren
that the days of Judge Roy Bean are gone.
