GARDAI SEEK MAN ON IEP15,000 CANNABIS CHARGE
GARDAI are searching for a man who was released on bail on Tuesday after
being charged with having IEP15,000 worth of cannabis for selling or
supplying.
Ross McCarthy of Somerset House, Ringaskiddy, Cork, failed to appear at Cork
District Court yesterday to meet the case against him.
Inspector Martin Shanahan asked for a bench warrant for his arrest.
Judge Uinsin MacGruairc granted the warrant.
Detective Garda John Sheedy gave evidence at Cork District Court on Tuesday
afternoon that he had arrested McCarthy (19) earlier that day at Baker's
Road, Gurranabraher, Cork.
When Ross McCarthy's case was called in court again yesterday there was no
sign of the accused.
Solicitor, Joe Cuddigan asked the judge to let the matter stand but there
was no appearance from McCarthy when the case was called again shortly
before lunchtime. As well as issuing a bench warrant, Judge MacGruairc
certified a breach of bail, so the person who put up the independent surety
will lose their IEP2,000.
Ray Linehan of Clarkes Road, Ballyphehane, Cork, was remanded in custody
with consent to bail until November 4 at Cork District Court.
Michael Jones of Loughbeg, Rinhgaskiddy, who is out on bail, appeared in
court yesterday and had his case adjourned to November 18.
Each of the three defendants is charged with being in possession of cannabis
and having the illegal drug for the purpose of sale or supply to others.
Linehan (24) was charged with having the drugs at Carrigaline Road, Douglas,
Cork.
Jones (19) and McCarthy (19) were charged with having the drugs at Loughbeg,
Ringaskiddy, County Cork.
Bail was fixed in each case at IEP100 and an independent surety of IEP2,000.
