COLOMBIA NABS REPUTED DRUG LORD WANTED IN U.S.
BOGOTA (Reuters) - A reputed drug trafficker wanted by the United States was
arrested Friday in Medellin, the birthplace of Colombia's multibillion
dollar drug trade, authorities said. National Police chief Gen. Rosso Jose
Serrano identified the suspect as Jesus Fernandez and said he was known in
the drug underworld by the nickname "Nono" or "Fats." Fernandez, an alleged
ringleader of the Norte del Valle drug gang, is the target of an outstanding
U.S. extradition request, Serrano told reporters.
He said Fernandez was bundled aboard a flight to the southwest city of Cali
shortly after his arrest since he was wanted there on drug and illegal
weapons charges. See
